Living in a Globalized Age: An Insightful Resource on an Often Misunderstood Topic

With full disclosure, I had the privilege of overlooking drafts of this work. I am not an economist. My training is in the humanities, an area where an attitude of suspicion, if not contempt, for the capitalist economic order is often the norm in academic study. John Manzella's work, backed by copious statistics and a careful, nuanced understanding of global trends, however, provides a more complex glimpse into the tangled world of international trade and finance than non-experts such as myself are accustomed to. For experts, I can only assume that this is a cutting-edge, up-to-date resource given the level of thought, research, and clarity of vision on display. The topics addressed -- from labor in China to intellectual property to supply chain management -- are current, relevant, and often, it appears, misunderstood by the general public. Manzella's arguments are cogent and compelling, backed by real world knowledge and a keen sense of the directions globalization could take us. This is an ambitious, impressive book, accessible to a lay audience without compromising a firm reliance on statistical facts and direct, on-the-ground observation.
